Being in the historic district, the windows could not be altered in any way. To accommodate the strict guidelines, and a window that went below the counter height, we created a deeper cabinet run on that side of the kitchen and allowed an eight inch clearance for the window.

The cabinets are our Amish custom line in white painted maple. The colors were kept light with MSI quartz in sparkling white. The contrast with the dark wood flooring is gorgeous. The lighting is whimsical and modern giving the design a contemporary spin.

To accommodate the placement of the window in this historic district home, standard depth base cabinets were installed with a clearance for the window. The counters were able to be eight inches deeper than standard with a cut out for the window clearance. In turn, the upper cabinets were also able to be deeper. What to do with the notched out area for the window? The homeowner thought she'd be able place some herb pots in the recess.

The entry passage to the walk in pantry was enlarged to make the space feel more a part of the kitchen. Floor to ceiling cabinetry was installed for abundant storage and the refrigerator was moved to within the pantry space.

This home is full of charm inside and out. The homeowner wanted to update the 1948 home’s kitchen and achieve a beachy cottage feeling with the colors. Being in the historic district, we could redesign the kitchen, but there were rules regarding moving windows etc., which could impact the design. Additionally, there was a walk in pantry area with a tight entry passage. We successfully redesigned the walk in pantry by opening it up to make it more of the kitchen space. Overall, the homeowner’s choices kept the interior charming, yet updated.
